PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Ensure the preparation, recording, processing, reconciliation and reporting of financial information for the district. Uphold district policies and standards for financial reporting for management and other users.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other business related field, preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient skills in typing, word processing, spreadsheets, and file maintenance
  • Uses mid-range and personal computers
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient math skills
  • Proficient organizational skills

Experience:

  • One to three years of experience preferably in a public education environment

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Fixed Asset Management

  1. Maintain fixed asset records.
  2. Coordinate and direct the district inventory process.
  3. Assist in securing titles, license plates, and insurance for all district vehicles.
  4. Assist the purchasing department with purchases of the district.

Other

  1. Ensure the accuracy of the general ledger and related accounting records.  Prepare monthly and annual journal entries. 
  2. Prepare monthly reconciliation of district bank accounts, revenues, payables, interfund transactions, cash receipts, cash disbursements, property taxes, and other accounting functions. Review regularly with Comptroller.
  3. Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports, verifying information.
  4. Develops and implements accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.

 

  1. Interact with external auditors, preparing fixed asset workpapers, schedules and reports. 
  2. Conduct oneself in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner in accordance with generally accepted community standards.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Business information systems, desktop/laptop computer, printers, scanners, copiers, calculators, and fax machine

  • Maintain emotional control under stress

Physical Demands

  • Moderate lifting and carrying (15-20 lbs.), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, repetitive hand motions;
  • Walking, standing, repeated bending, and stooping
  • Prolonged use of computer

Environmental Demands

  • Office environment, non-environmentally controlled and dusty areas
  • May work prolonged or irregular hours
