PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as a lifelong learner by planning and implementing an instructional program and providing related educational services. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify/control instructional activities as required to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and credentials necessary to secure a high-skill, high-wage, high-demand career in the global marketplace.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field preferred and/or: 
    • One of the following:
      • Appropriate, valid CTE teaching certificate issued by Texas Education Agency;
      • eligible for and acceptance into an alternative teacher certification program and eligible for a temporary teaching permit;
      • Meet the qualifications to teach under Districts of Innovation; or
      • Meet the qualifications to teach under House Bill 2205.
  • Full-time, compensated work experience in the program area preferred.
  • Relevant industry-based certifications/licensures or willingness and ability to obtain within the first year of employment.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialty.
  • Knowledge of appropriate technology equipment and software programs related to course content and industry.
  • Knowledge of current research and theory related to instructional practices.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on the state and district’s standards including the needs and abilities of students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders including the students, faculty/staff, parents and community members.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience working with students preferred.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate instructional strategies to fit the individual needs and diverse learning styles of students to meet state objectives/curriculum standards.
  • Evaluate student mastery of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and reteach/enrich lessons based on the findings to ensure desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes are met.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multi-media and computer technologies to enhance learning.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Provide opportunities for students to participate actively and successfully in a Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
  • Actively participate in recruitment activities to maximize student interest in incumbent’s program of study.
  • Prepare students to complete and obtain appropriate industry certifications or licensures.
  • Maintain, safeguard student records (such as certifications, training plans, Individual Education Program (IEPs).
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, beneficial, safe and conducive to learning while ensuring materials and equipment are assessable to all students and in good, working condition.
  • Promote and support a positive, safe climate for all stakeholders.
  • Engage in professional development to continuously improve instructional methodology/pedagogy and maintain knowledge of industry standards.
  • Initiate communications with parents/guardians about student performance and/or behavior when appropriate.
  • Contribute to campus/district committees as requested such as District CTE Advisory Meetings.
  • Participate and contribute in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) process for Special Populations.
  • Articulate and execute district initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

STIPEND

There is a Board approved $10,000.00 stipend for this position.

Mental Demands:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to who assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

 

Physical Demand/Environmental Factors: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds such as boxes of books and AV carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
